Operating System Install Service

Fresh Install. Fully Updated.
Ready to Use.

Linux, Windows, or macOS. I install your operating system from scratch, apply all updates, and set up a basic user account so your computer is genuinely ready to use the moment you take it home.

What's Included

Done Right, Not Just Done.

A fresh OS install isn't just running an installer and handing it back. Every install includes the steps most shops skip, so your computer is genuinely ready to use, not stuck on a login screen demanding a hundred updates.

Clean OS Install

Fresh installation from official media. No bloatware, no random preinstalled junk. Just the operating system as it was meant to be.

All Updates Applied

Every available system update, security patch, and driver update applied before handoff. Your machine boots ready, not stuck downloading for 4 hours.

Basic User Account Setup

I set up your user account with your name, password (yours, never mine), basic settings, and confirm everything's working. You log in, you're ready.

Working & Tested

I verify networking, audio, video, and basic functionality before you pick up. If anything's flaky, you know about it, not a week later.

Three OS Options

Pick Your Operating System.

Linux
$50

Free, fast, and a great way to give older hardware new life.

  • Any major distribution: Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Fedora, Pop!_OS, etc.
  • Free operating system, no license fees
  • Works great on older or low-spec machines
  • Ideal life-extension option for pre-2016 laptops/desktops
  • Also installable on older Macs that no longer get macOS updates

Not sure which distribution? I'll recommend one based on what you'll use the computer for. Linux Mint is the most beginner-friendly, Ubuntu is the most popular.

Windows
$75

Fresh Windows 11 install with all updates applied.

  • Windows 11 (the current supported version)
  • All Windows Updates applied through completion
  • Drivers installed and verified working
  • Bloatware removed where possible
  • Microsoft account or local account, your choice

About licensing: Most modern PCs (2016 and newer) have the Windows license stored in the BIOS/UEFI firmware, and Windows will activate automatically with no key needed. For older machines, custom builds, or machines that didn't ship with Windows, you'll need to provide a valid Windows license key.

macOS
$75

Clean macOS reinstall via Internet Recovery or USB installer.

  • Latest macOS your hardware supports
  • Internet Recovery or USB-based installer
  • All system updates applied
  • Basic account setup, Apple ID sign-in if requested
  • iCloud and basic settings configured

macOS is free and tied to your Mac hardware, so no separate license is needed. For Macs that no longer receive macOS updates, I can also install Linux on them as an alternative ($50 Linux tier).

How It Works

Drop Off, Pick Up, Done.

1

Drop Off & Pick an OS

Bring me the computer. We'll talk through what you'll use it for and which OS makes the most sense, then I confirm pricing and timeline before any work starts.

2

Backup Check

An OS install wipes the drive. I confirm anything important has been backed up before starting. If you need help backing up first, I can do that for a small additional fee.

3

Install + Update + Test

Fresh install, all updates applied, drivers confirmed, basic account set up, and full testing of network, audio, video, and core functionality.

4

Pick Up & Take It Home

Computer's ready to use the moment you log in. I walk you through anything you should know about your new setup and answer questions.

Realistic Timeline

How Long Does an Install Take?

Most installs are turned around in 1-2 business days. Updates and testing take most of the time. The install itself is fast. Older hardware with slower drives can take longer.

Operating System
Typical Turnaround
Linux
1 business day
Windows 11
1-2 business days
macOS (Internet Recovery)
1-2 business days

Windows updates can sometimes drag out. There are occasionally multi-hour update cycles where the machine has to install one update, reboot, install the next, and so on. I'll give you a clear estimate based on the specific machine when you drop off.

Good to Know

The Honest Details.

An OS install wipes the drive

This is a fresh install, so all existing data on the drive is removed in the process. Make sure anything important is backed up before drop-off. I can help with backups for an additional fee if needed.

Windows 11 hardware requirements

Windows 11 requires TPM 2.0, UEFI Secure Boot, and a supported CPU (roughly 2018 and newer for Intel, similar for AMD). I install Windows 11 only, since Windows 10 is no longer supported by Microsoft and won't receive security updates. If your hardware can't run Windows 11, Linux is an excellent alternative on those older machines.

Windows licensing: what you need to know

Most PCs from 2016 onward have the Windows license stored in the firmware (BIOS/UEFI) and will activate automatically. Older machines, custom-built PCs, and machines that originally shipped with a different OS will require a valid Windows license key that you provide. If you're not sure, I'll check during drop-off.

macOS reinstalls only, not hardware

I do macOS software work including fresh installs via Internet Recovery and USB installers. I do not perform any hardware repair on Apple devices.

Linux works on basically anything

Old Windows laptops, old Macs, Chromebooks, even some surprisingly ancient machines. If you've got hardware that's been declared "too old," Linux is often the answer. I'll let you know if it's compatible.

App and software installs are not included

The $50/$75 fee covers the OS, updates, and basic account setup. Installing your specific apps (Office, Photoshop, browsers beyond defaults, etc.) is a separate service. If you want me to set up specific software, just let me know and I'll quote it.

Data transfer not included

If you want files moved from an old computer or backup to the freshly installed one, that's a separate Data Backup & Transfer service ($75 flat). Mention it at drop-off and I'll roll it in.

Ready for a Fresh Start?

Reach out and tell me what you've got (make, model, and what you'll use the computer for). I'll recommend the best OS option and confirm timing.
